What can a person use to get rid of the smell of skunk?

This will sound weird, but my vet told me to use a liquid douche like Mengil and to always keep one around for emergencies. It actually works! I had a little dog and a huge skunk problem. Every year, he would stick his nose where it didn't belong and get sprayed full force in the face. The one year it was so bad that he started convulsing so I rushed him to the vet. And that is where I learned the solution.
